Pinterest: “Pin It” for More Sales

May 31, 2012

pinterestClients of ours have recently found success with Pinterest – an online pinboard that allows users to organize and share products that they find online.

The site allows users to “pin” a picture onto their Pinterest “board.” From there, users that are following their boards can view the items and “re-pin” it onto their board. When a user pins a product picture, it has the potential to go viral and the exposure can increase exponentially.

One of our retail clients recently added the “Pin It” button onto their website and a Pinterest user pinned an item that they carry. After that, they quickly sold 20 additional units, reaching new customers and gaining publicity.

Pinterest provides easy to follow instructions to add the “Pin It” button to your website so that users can begin pinning your products on their boards.

In addition, companies like Nordstrom are jumping on the Pinterest trend and are creating their own branded Pinterest accounts. Nordstrom has broken out their products into different themed boards, allowing a user to quickly re-pin an item and/or go directly to the product page to buy.

You may even have pins and not know it yet. To check for your own existing pins, go to www.pinterest.com/source/YourWebsiteURL.com, for example, www.pinterest.com/source/macys.com.

There is currently a short waiting list to sign up for Pinterest, but an invite from a current user will speed up the process.
